this was a really cool writeup from Gavan Hennigan who came dead last in this years Iditarod Trail Invitational. he did the Anchorage->Nome journey on foot in 32 days of Alaskan winter/spring. pretty intense!

this piece is not very well written, but it is accurate and gets across how slow and what a feat this is. 19 hour days! -45C temperatures! holy moly… and im here nice and warm reading about it.

problem: you need to put more layers on to keep warm, but that means you need to stop moving (dangerous) and take things off/undo things solution: jog for 20 minutes to get warm, and then change the clothes in like seconds. rinse and repeat. clever!

very impressive. i’d like to do something similar, one day…
