Some writing about some guy trying to use his phone less. Lol, following Dean Burnett has made me unable to call maladaptive phone use an addiction for presumably technical psychology reasons but nobody else hast he memo!
Some fancy anti-smartphones: - e-ink smartphone - mudita kompakt
i mean you just may as well not have a smartphone or use a brickphone than buy a fancy minimalist smartphone, no?
as is well known, the anxiety of not having your phone with you is in reality anxiety about missing notifications, or an email, about the “lost productivity” whilst you have to wait for something.
if my parents ask me to have my phone, for an emergency about them – i am not a medic and i live far away, i am not the person to contact immediately.
it does feel really good+liberating to not have ur phone with. you get lost in ur thoughts, talk to yourself. its nice! its a privilege, some of the time (i don’t work an on-call job, for example).
make peace with not knowing things. if you really want to, you can look it up later. or you’ll remember later.
notifications are really disruptive! its nice+good when you don’t have to deal with them.
i often have a reason to have my phone with me in the mornings, to log onto stuff at work, but after that i usually switch it off and its nice.
ooo this guy has written something cool. “offpunk”, the offline-first command line browser, eh? sexy. will have to have a look at that…
