oh no, “I’m David and Raptitude is a blog about getting better at being human – things we can do to improve our lives today.” sorry that that made me cringe. improvement is good!
Opening sentence: “The human being is an enjoyment-seeking creature.” Oh for fuck’s sake. This is going to be difficult.
The ability to consciously enjoy stuff, ordinary stuff, like being sat on a sofa in a communal workshop that I pay a modest amount towards, with a blanket over my legs, a laptop on my knee and headphones blasting J-rock, having just said goodbye to some good friends after we shared a meal and some good chats – like that? Yes it does work and its very lovely.
The only requirement is attention, not a special sentimental mood, nor a good overall life condition. A good memory to remember the things you like is helpful too.
The best pleasures can’t be consumed. The pleasures of most of life, the sky, soft mattresses, average comfort, pale in comparison to the intensity of chocolate and notifications.
Slowing down the rate of consumption makes the pleasure easier to get at. The slower you eat, the more you’ll enjoy it!
This is just grounding again!! Gah! It’s embarassing how helpful it is.
