This was a fine book! I am fairly clued up on Quakerism, so the only chapter that taught me new facts was the short history. This book is fairly old, so it was quite interesting to see some historical positions set out.

Good general introduction, though quite dated now? I think the Introducing Quakers by that other guy have held up better, ironically (they are older still). I would like to see a properly modern quaker book for a general audience. Perhaps I shall have to write it.

Hubbard’s theological/philosophical position is interesting and different to mine. He’s much more new-age than I am and, he’s quite religous experience = ego-death which I can’t say I understand.

The section at the end with some criticisms of the Society are interesting, primarily that it is too middle class and comfortable with itself, which is still true. I’m not sure what you do about that, to be honest. More better posters?
