The author thinks the AI people are setting out to literally create god. I don’t think so, I think they just want to be rich and powerful and the rest is literally incidental.
So then I guess it follows that AI psychosis is “just” religious delusion.

The trap of rationalitiy is that if you believe yourself absolutely rational, and you somehow come to have an irrational opinion, you will justify it as rational because its an opinion you have and you are rational. Hmm.
Hmm, that’s a good point. I dismiss most of this, but shouldn’t we take them seriously when Altman talks of creating a religion, AGI boosters talk about creating a god-like figure, when Peter Thiel calls his opponents Satan. No, i don’t think we have to take them seriously. I think at the same time as this AI thing, we also have an ascendent far-right that likes religious language for some reason.
