damn, this is really lovely. it’s an imploration to live the punk rock good life:
- diy
- friends
- being responsible to yourself and your communities
- sticking it to the man
you can do it anywhere. you can do it anyhow. this is basically 100% my whole thing with wanting to kill my phone, this is why!! it’s affirming to see how many of the things on this list i already do… and how many more i could do.
some good pull quotes:
- It’s a good thing to romanticize your own life. It’s a good thing to embrace the aesthetics of how you live, and to play into those aesthetics. We should seek to wring as much beauty as we can out of our life.
this is a good piece to have in dialogue with Wayward Lives, Beautiful Experiments. They are both about how to live a good life despite poverty, and they both involve diy, beauty, doing your thing whatever it is (Joshua Idahen), and the importance of aesthetics.
ironically i’m not actually into punk music… but i do like diy culture :))
what will i do?
- try to keep doing these things. yes.
- make a calendar event for a like end of april to invite lots of friends over for a big potluck (the birthday party v2!)
- at my upcoming birthday party, have a piece of paper and pens for people to write their names on. i want to remember these people (my friends).
- CREATE MORE ART!!
- get some more pen pals?
