Summary

This article is about Lu’s colour specification system. It is RGB but 0 to 9 on each of the channels. This lower-resolution means the different colours are more different to each other, and there aren’ many ways to make the most popular colours.

There are also only 1000 colours in total, which you can easily do in a lookup table for hex conversions or whatever, making it very fast.

They also discuss how you can bias the interpolation/conversion towards a particular hue, to make everything gel together more nicely. For example, all the colours in cellpond (ahhh, this is what makes the colours in cellpond) are biased towards greeny/blue.

What I like

It’s very simple, its very intuitive. It feels very good.

What I don’t like?

Nothing.

Splish splash.
