Gods this is just a really depressing list of all the cuts to departments, redundancy programs and so on to basically every university in the UK. Then over half the page is comments from people at other unis adding even more examples.
I have no idea how the government thinks we’re going to be world-leading in research. Idk what my future in academia is going to be like, though I know physics is a fairly safe field.
It’s just really depressing. So many clever people doing fantastic work, going away. And because of academic gatekeeping, if these intellectuals leave academia, their work isn’t going to be propagated, except slowly and very locally. Never mind across borders. :((
The physical world is shrinking (Brexit, Fascism), the intellectual world is also shrinking. All to make a few people some more money.
